Department of English Language and Literature, Adamas University
Date: 22nd April 2024
On April 22nd, 2024, the Department of English and MEL hosted a full day of student paper presentations by our MA Semester II students. As part of their Experiential Learning component for Discipline-Specific Electives (DSE), students showcased their research and insights across seven themed panels.
It was a day of sharing, support, and spirited discussion. Some students were nervous, many were excited—but all were ready to engage. Faculty and peers came together to exchange ideas, ask questions, and learn from one another in a warm and encouraging environment.
Panel 1 focused on the city in contemporary Indian writing, exploring memory and silence in urban life.
Panel 2 dealt with film adaptations, showing how cinema reshapes literature and brings new meaning to familiar stories.
Panel 3 explored food, culture, and literature—how recipes, traditions, and even Instagram posts shape how we remember and share food.
Panel 4 looked at teaching English as a second language, connecting grammar, culture, and early learning practices.
Panel 5 discussed literature and visual arts, examining sacred imagery and street art to understand how art tells stories and resists power.
Panel 6 turned to world literature, comparing global voices through feminist, postcolonial, and Marxist lenses to examine themes like suffering, identity, and class.
Panel 7 centered on African literature’s fight against colonialism, spotlighting how writers use language and memory to reclaim identity.
Under faculty guidance, the event reflected the department’s commitment to active learning, critical thinking, and nurturing confident young scholars. We look forward to more such collaborative, student-driven academic exchanges in the future.
