Dr. Ambalika Guha is an academic and researcher in the fields of linguistics and English language teaching. Currently serving as the Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Language and Literature at Adamas University, Kolkata, she also coordinates the Centre for Study of Contemporary Theory and Research. She has earned the Outstanding Assistant Professor Award from Adamas University in October 2024.
Dr. Guha holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad, with her research focusing on syntax. Her academic qualifications also include an M.A. in Linguistics and a B.A. in English Honours from the University of Calcutta.
Dr. Guha’s research interests span syntax, semantics, cognitive linguistics, second language acquisition, and metacognitive learning. She is the Principal Investigator of an ICSSR-funded project aimed at developing an AI-based trilingual language learning application for the endangered Toto language of West Bengal. Additionally, she leads a university-funded project exploring critical thinking and metacognitive awareness through ICT-based language learning.
Dr. Guha’s research publications are featured in renowned journals and conference proceedings, such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Working Papers in Linguistics and the Indian Journal of Language and Linguistics. Her book, Issues in the Syntax of the Determiner Phrases in Bangla, was published in 2023 by Brill EALT, highlighting her expertise in South Asian linguistics.
